Making Lemonade from Lemons: Meet PWD Manny Hernandez

Over the many years I’ve spent counseling and working with people with diabetes I’ve met many VERY inspiring people…people who have, as the expression goes, Made Lemonade from Lemons. Working with Tandem Diabetes Care, I’m profiling people who’ve taken the diagnosis of diabetes and are applying optimism and positivity to give back to their community. They’re showing the world just how well people with diabetes can live. In this column I interviewed Manny Hernandez. Manny, who develop diabetes at 30, was misdiagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Eventually he was diagnosed with LADA - type 1 diabetes in adults. Manny started a non-profit organization, Diabetes Hands Foundation in 2006. DHF was a catalyst for many people around the globe to access entry to and engage with the diabetes online community. Today Manny continues, in his dynamic way, to advocate on behalf of people with diabetes globally. He's motivated by the belief that, “Nobody touched by diabetes should ever feel alone.” Read here ...
