On the Cutting Edge newsletter: Theme: Addressing the Mental Health Needs and Psychosocial Barriers to Self-Care for People with Diabetes

On the cutting edgeI was pleased to serve as the theme section editor for this On the Cutting Edge, the newsletter of the Diabetes Care and Education Dietetic Practice Group of the Academy of Dietetics and Nutrition. For this issue I coordinated topic ideation, author selection, article reviews and other editorial responsibilities. As I wrote in my theme editor message on page 1, “It is time for healthcare providers who counsel and care for people with diabetes to have greater intentionality to the emotional wellbeing and mental health needs of people with diabetes and their caregivers. The good news is that we are seeing escalating attention to this topic.” This publication contains nine articles all focused on the mental health needs and psychosocial barriers to self-care for people with diabetes written by experts in this area. (Full access to this publication is available to Academy members at: https://www.dce.org/publications/on-the-cutting-edge. Access to the full text of one article is available at no charge at this link. Contact Hope Warshaw directly if you are interested in accessing the full publication.)
