Cliff Notes Version of the ADA’s 2019 Nutrition Therapy Consensus Report

In May of 2019 the American Diabetes Association (ADA) published in their journal, Diabetes Care, an update to the 2014 iteration of their nutrition recommendations. It’s titled, “Nutrition Therapy for Adults with Diabetes or Prediabetes: A Consensus Report.” ADA does a complete review and update of this report roughly every five years. In Today’s Dietitian’s annual special Diabetes Management & Nutrition Guide (July 2019), I dug into the details of this dense report to offer dietitians and other readers, what I called the “Cliff Notes” version of the Consensus Report. Beyond digging into the details for the biggest changes and most salient topics, I sought and share perspectives from the insiders – authors of the Consensus Report. In addition, I got input from outsiders – colleagues who I asked to review it for this article. All in all the article offers insights on key changes, new areas of research and perspective from five experts in diabetes nutrition management. Read the complete article in magazine format ...
